Recognize the structure and content of the AICPA Codification Code of Professional Conduct (code). We end with discussions of a real-world case involving a CPA whose objectivity and competence is questioned. The most significant change to the content in the revised AICPA Code is the incorporation of two conceptual frameworks, one for members in public practice and one for members in business. However, in certain circumstances the PEEC has determined that it is appropriate to prohibit or restrict certain relationships notwithstanding the fact that the risk may be at an acceptable level.
Apply the Conceptual Framework for Members in Public Practice included in the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct to situations that could present threats to compliance with the rules included in the Code. This workshop (re-)introduces the revised AICPA Code of Professional Conduct and walks through the eleven rules of conduct applicable to accountants in public practice, emphasizing the management of objectivity and competence. The conceptual framework is therefore great and worth adopting to promote stronger AICPA code and ethical practices within the accounting profession (Sterrett, 1997).
