In religious life, the Renaissance was a time of the broadening and institutionalizing of earlier initiatives in lay piety and lay-sponsored clerical reforms, rather than the abandonment of traditional beliefs. This statement refers to the famous reformations which took place all over Europe for instance the efforts of Martin Luther the reformist helped a lot to show that the church was misleading the congregation. The Renaissance was less a dramatic rebirth of science than an age of preparation for the scientific revolution that was to come in the seventeenth century. Humanism both aided and impeded the advance of science.

These included intellectual, artistic, political, religious, and societal enlightenments. The thirteenth and sixteenth centuries in Europe saw a changing attitude to religion, part of a movement now known as the Renaissance (meaning re-birth) which affected many areas of life from art to exploration.

It followed the vitally important trade routes, and brought with it the growing influences and various aspects of the Renaissance. Humanism and the Renaissance therefore played a direct role in sparking the Reformation, as well as in many other contemporaneous religious debates and conflicts. Part 1 (1484–1530) covers the early Renaissance, Part 2 (1530–1562) the period leading up to the Wars of Religion; and Part 3 (1562–1614) the wars themselves. The Renaissance, Reformation, and Religion During the various periods of what is now called the Renaissance, a great deal of change was occurring in the world and religious faith was by no means immune to these changes, as evidenced by the Reformation.

T The Renaissance was very tolerable of religion, and a break from the traditional form of the church did not mean that people seperated themselves from religious teachings and ideas. The humanism of the Renaissance is either praised for shattering medieval superstitions or lamented for elevating the autonomous self against traditional religious authorities. Renaissance humanists. The Italian Renaissance was a great period of change that marked the transition from the Middle Ages to Modernity. By placing viewers in the scenes with the religious icons, the allegories became more relevant to everyday life.

Throughout the Renaissance period, rulers of each country or region continued to determine what would be the dominant church, and its citizens were required to obey.

However, there were new ideas during this time including a new Christian church called Protestantism and a new philosophy called Humanism.

The Renaissance was much more than a costumed festival; it was a period of new wealth, religious fervor, intellectual philosophy, and an extreme passion for the arts.

It must be pointed out that renaissance was very secular but not necessarily evil as such.

Responsibility: Religion in the Renaissance features the growth and dominance of the Catholic Church in northern Europe, its influence on art and architecture, and how it was eventually challenged and by whom. Also during the Renaissance there was more attention to the development of the individual where education was concerned.
